İlk olarak öğrenci konseyi seçimle oluşturulur şöyleki her fakültenin her sınıfından sınıf temsilciliği için adaylıklar konur. Seçilen her sınıf temsilcisi kendi fakültesinin temsilcisi olmak için aday olmaya hak kazanmıştır demektir. Fakülte temsilciliğine aday başvuruları bittikten sonra her sınıf temsilcisinin kullanacağı oyla fakülte temsilcisi belirlenir. Her fakültenin temsilcisi öğrenci konseyini seçmek üzere rektörlüğün gözetiminde toplanır. Sonra öğrenci konsey başkanı, yönetim kurulu ve denetim kurulu seçilir. Sonra her üniversitenin konsey başkanı Türkiye geneli Konsey seçimlere giderek ordaki yönetimi belirlerler. Öğrenci Konseyi direkt olarak YÖK’e bağlıdır ve çalışmalarından ve işleyişinden hesap vereceği merci YÖK’tür. Peki ne işe yarar bu konsey? Herkesin bildiği üzere üniversiteler özerk yapılanmalardır ve bu nedenle ast-üst ilişkisi biraz daha değişiktir buralarda. Bu yüzden öğrencilerin hakkını araması bireysel bazda sıkıntı doğurabilir. İşte tam burada konsey devreye girmektedir. Öğrencilerin üniversitedeki her türlü derdine, sıkıntısına çözüm bulmak için başvurabilecekleri adeta bir kurumdur. Gerektiğinde YÖK’ e başvurulabilecekleri ve YÖK’ten müfettiş talep edebilecekleri bir imkan sunar öğrencilere. Atatürk Üniversitesi öğrenci konseyide birçok konuda Atatürk Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin yanında olup onlara destek vermektedi.
First of all, the student council is formed by election; nominations are made for class representation from each class of each faculty. Each elected class representative is entitled to be a candidate to be the representative of his/her own faculty. After the candidate applications for faculty representation are completed, the faculty representative is determined by the vote of each class representative. Representatives of each faculty meet under the supervision of the rectorate to elect the student council. Then the student council president, board of directors and audit board are elected. Then, the council president of each university goes to the Turkey-wide Council elections and determines the management there. The Student Council is directly affiliated with YÖK and the authority to which it will be accountable for its work and functioning is YÖK. So what use is this council? As everyone knows, universities are autonomous structures and therefore the superior-subordinate relationship is a little different here. Therefore, demanding students’ rights may cause problems on an individual basis. This is where the council comes into play. It is an institution that students can apply to find solutions to all their problems and problems at the university. It offers students the opportunity to apply to YÖK and request an inspector from YÖK when necessary. Atatürk University student council also stands by Atatürk University students and supports them on many issues.
